Learning Management System Workshops

Blackboard Learning System Vista 4 is the system-wide learning management system for UMass Online. BLS Vista 4 is also used for hybrid or blended courses on the Boston campus.

New instructors teaching fully-online courses for CCDE have additional workshop requirements. For details, please see: http://www.dlvpc.umb.edu/workshops.htm.

LMS My Way - Faculty Perspectives on Topics in eLearning (1.5 hr):
  Significant learning can take place when practitioners share their work with other practitioners in an informal exchange. In this workshop several faculty members will briefly discuss some aspect of their experience with elearning. Ample time will be allotted for discussion following the presentations.

Preparing Content for Online Use (1.5 hr):
  If you have put content online only to have it display differently than you anticipated or your students can't download or open the content, then this workshop will help you properly prepare your materials for online use. The workshop will demonstrate best practices and techniques for preparing text, spreadsheets, powerpoint presentations, images, audio, and video content for use on the web.

Introduction to BLS Vista (3 hours):
  This workshop provides an introduction to online teaching using the Blackboard Learning Management System Vista (formerly WebCT Vista). The workshop focuses on the basic functionality of the program, including: the process of adding content to your course and placing content within the course; methods to organize course content; techniques to selectively release content to students. Required for CCDE faculty.

Intermediate BLS Vista (2 hours):
  This workshop focuses on the BLS Vista tools for distributing, reviewing and grading of assignments and for creating threaded discussions, blogs, journals and chats. .Required for CCDE faculty.
Prerequisite: Introduction to BLS Vista or equivelent experience

Advanced BLS Vista (2 hours):
  This workshop focuses on the BLS Vista tools for recording and distributing student grades and for creating and distributing quizzes, self tests, and surveys.Required for CCDE faculty.

Adobe Presenter (Breeze) (2 hours):
  This workshop is for faculty members who have used PowerPoint effectively whether online or in face-to-face courses. Installing Adobe Presenter on your PC adds a Breeze menu inside PowerPoint. This allows you to convert your existing presentations to a web-based format easily accessible to your students from within the WebCT browser without the need for additional software. You will learn the basic functions of Presenter including adding and editing audio. You will also learn how to post links to these presentations in your BLS/WebCT Vista course sections.
