Equipment Guidelines
Media Labs:
There are two Media Labs on campus. The McCormack Lab services the McCormack
building, the Science building and the Administration building. The Wheatley
Media Lab services the Wheatley building and Snowden Auditorium. For classes
in the Small Science and Lipke Auditoriums, please contact the Science Auditorium
Office.
Equipment availability
Media Services equipment is for campus and classroom use only. Under no circumstances
may equipment be taken off-campus. Faculty, staff and students may reserve any
of the equipment that is available for a specific time, date and location. A
list of equipment is available at the Media Lab or on our website.
Please make your reservations in advance.
Students may not borrow computer/projector
combos without the signature of a sponsoring Faculty member whose
class the student is attending and must produce a current student
I.D. when picking up equipment.
Reserving Equipment
Walk-in:
This is a short notice reservation. The information that you will be
required to provide: your name, date and exact time you need the equipment,
the equipment you require and the room where you are going to be using the equipment
(Building-floor-room number). Without this information, a reservation will
not be made. You are responsible for picking up and returning the equipment on
time.
Long Term:
This is a reservation for Faculty and staff who want to
pick up equipment at particular dates in the semester (i.e every
M W F or Tu Th). As with the walk in arrangement, the
Faculty needs to pick up and return the equipment.
TEC Room and Multimedia Room reservations:
Media Services is not responsible for scheduling these
rooms but is available to provide technical assistance. For scheduling
information, please contact the Scheduling Office. The Multimedia
Rooms are located in M/2/116 and W/2/158. Tec’s are located
on the second floor of Wheatley and in the 400 block on the first
floor of McCormack. If you need a tutorial on how to use these
rooms, a Media Lab supervisor or TEC support person is available
to assist you. Please call the Supervisor of the Media Lab in the
building in which your class is scheduled to set up an appointment.
For Special Events:
Any equipment required for “special events” needs
to be reserved through John Potter at extension 7-5962. Three weeks
advance notice is required.
General Guidelines:
- If you make a long-term reservation and realize you are not
going to use the equipment on a specific date, please call and
inform the Media Lab. If you do not show up more than three consecutive
times for your equipment, and no notice has been received, your
reservations will be cancelled and you will need to re-request
equipment as it becomes available
- Please provide ample time to come to the Media Lab to request
equipment. No equipment will be released until the proper form
has been filled out.
- Please return the equipment to the same Media Lab you borrowed
it from.
- Special permission is required for equipment to be kept overnight.
A secured lock-up facility must be approved.
- Equipment is not to be used “off campus”. This
includes the JFK Library and the State Archives building.
- Please be careful in handling the equipment. If you have any
questions or concerns, please ask Media Services.
- Please check that you haven’t forgotten any of your tapes,
slides, floppies, etc. when returning the equipment.
- Please, no food, drink or chalk on or near the projectors or
other a/v equipment.
- You may not take any of the equipment off the cart or disconnect
any combo units such as a VHS/TV, etc. If you would like to use
a camcorder as a playback unit, please notify the Media Services
staff to assist you. All connections must be re-checked when
the equipment is returned.
